NIOA Expectations of facility working for
Schools’ Expectations of NIOA Officials
- Please have all auxiliary help lined up prior to game time. Scorers, timers, chain gang, etc.
- Have water for officials, anything extra is a bonus but not necessary.
- AD’s work with your coaches on how to do deal with the officials professionally. This is also a 2-way street.
- NIOA expects schedules from the AD’s on the date requested.
- Pay to equal the contest or contests, being worked on by the committee.
- Communication both ways between the officials and the school is paramount.
Schools’ Expectations of NIOA Officials
- Contact the AD to verify the date, time, and location of the contest no matter what level.
- Arrive at game site on time. Recommended minimum of 45 minutes before varsity games and 15 minutes for lower-level games. If going to be late communicate with the AD.
- Be professional, hustle, and know the rules.
- Dress and look the part.
- Contact game administration to address or handle any issues that arise during the contest.
- In regard to baseball game umpires, get back to the field in a timely manner following the sub-varsity game. Be ready and waiting for the pre-game conference with both coaches after the conclusion of both teams’ infield warmups. We request all field preparation and warmups be expedited to ensure varsity baseball games start at the scheduled time. JV contests must also be completed at the appropriate time.
- Officials are independent contractors, AD’s will make decisions on game/event management, I.E. how we run it.
- For football, we need a max of 3 officials for junior high and 4 for under level football, but can go with less.
- Wrestling officials are expected to be at skin checks and weigh-ins.
